The Recap Thus Far
Oosa had a vision of drowned men rising from the fork to lay waste to the Riverlands. She tried to plant a rusted iron fork into Edmure Tully’s fish when he and his knights came to Cytell’s castle, the Fort on the Hill. One of the guests was Karson Riverly who aimed to shame the Cytells, instead he was framed for a murder plot and died in prison the next day with Oosa who was declared a coconspirator. Edmure and his knights left in disgust. There was fear of reprisal.
Roland Cytell got Brian, Bertin and Bret to got to Caster Hall with a guard to formulate an alliance between the two houses. In order to gain alliance Brian, Bertin and Bret performed a few functions. They helped clear Caster’s woods of brigands. They found the enemy camp and helped to defeat the brigands that did not escape. In the enemy camp they found something out of the ordinary, a shield with the heraldic icon of House Piper. Next they stopped an attempt on Simon Caster’s life by a bumbling assassin named Mott. Mott declared under torture that he was working for a man named Orn from Market Town. After these deeds house Caster declared their alliance to Cytell.
On their way back home from Caster Hall they uncovered that Claw Point tower was occupied by Riverly and Nole. Fishermen informed them that they caught a corpse during fishing then found another group of bodies along the shore. Upon inspection it was found out that the Riverlys and Noles were digging up the tomb at Claw Point and throwing the bodies into the water. Their aim is to find a Valyrian Sword named the ‘Red Promise’ which has long been tied to the land and would give the wielder legitimate claim on the tower and its surrounding lands.
Having returned home they received Ser Patrek Mallister who was acting as a neutral party. He brought the declaration before the Cytell court and stated that if Brian was not given to Riverly as a ward and a sum of 200 gold was not paid for five years then war will be declared between the houses. Cytell had fifteen days to make a reply. In this time Tamin Fosray, the squire of now dead Karson Riverly, opted to stay with house Cytell in order to be the messenger. He soon starts to investigate Karson’s death.
By this time the Ostens had arrived, Adrian and Tanya. Adrien was previously overheard in the woods speaking to a Cytell servant named Potato Boy about the goings on in their lands. Being quite rich and eager to help, Adrian Osten agreed to lend the sum of 600 gold. Coincidently there had already been hundreds of mercenaries at Market Town at this time, most of which seemed to have an Ironborn accent.
Since House Cynwyn was lumped with Cytell as an enemy of House Riverly, given that the poison used to kill Karson Riverly came from Alon’s Wood, Brian, Bertin and Bret agreed to go to the woods in order to secure a second alliance with Alon. The woods were less than friendly and facing aggression Bret ran off into the deep forest to escape as he relived a horror from his past. He was never seen again. Meanwhile Bret and Bertin were sent to Alon who brought them to a Weirdwood where an Ironborn named Dogon was hanging. Dogon informed that he had two other brothers: Orn and Yog. He states that the Ironborn were going to rise again when the Drowned God returned his dead it will be an invasion from Essos of those that never surrendered to Targaryans. Bertin surmises this must be linked to the dead being thrown into the river. Alon then returned the bones of Roland’s older sister and gave Bertin a seed in order to plant a Weirdwood in Cytell territory. He claimed to never want to see them in his woods again and refused to enter an alliance.
When they returned home without Bret there was much sorrow. Bertin plants the seed. Smallfolk from the surrounding domains were starting to enter the Cytell territory having heard Septon Weston’s prayers and calls for aggression against what the Riverlys and Noles were doing at Claw Point. The fanatic smallfolk were turned into a small fighting force by Bertin and Brian, some of them were sent by Bertin to spy on their former lords. Cytell promised that an attack on the Riverlys and Noles at Claw Point was close in hand. By this time Ser Meilyr Hosfeld was sent to Stony Sept to inform the leaders there to the threat.
Ser Alistair Creed, renowned tournament knight arrived at House Cytell to be the representative of Simon Caster. After introductions the salutations were cut short when the hired mercenaries arrived with Orn in hand. He was captured in Market Town in secret while visiting a whore. After being interrogated Orn stated that there are five thousand Ironcast that will wreak havoc on the Riverlands. They are arriving at Market Town daily and aim to reave. Later that night Alon’s eagle arrived with a message that the Riverlys are besieging his forest. Alon requested aide but Roland refused sending back a negative reply.
The next day Brian, Berin and Alistair went off with Adrian and Tamin Fosray to try and get the Riverlys to stop and put differences aside for the time being as the Ironcast are a greater threat. After much debate Steven Rively the heir of house Riverly, decided to agree. Cytell and Riverly entered an agreement. The armies would meet at Claw Point and take on the Ironcast as a single Riverlands army. It is unknown who would lead this army.
